In writing my doctoral dissertation, published in 1996, knowing and telling the truth was, of course, required. This is how I introduced the methodology by which I sought that truth.
Truth is certainly not that Honest Abe had anything to say about the internet. It certainly is that every truth claim needs to be vigilantly evaluated! Let’s begin by listening to scripture and a few other voices.
The subject of truth is so complicated and controversial that all I have the courage, conviction and clarity to share, at this time in this article, are a few contributions to the conversation.
What can we know about the Christ by paying careful attention to his relationship to animals? And a follow up question; Given the relationship of Jesus to the animals and all of creation, how are we to love the animals and all of the creation?
What if I wanted to be as sure as possible that my prayers—after all, I love these people I am praying for–– are powerful? What if others were to say to me, “Teach us how to pray?”
These three men and I were, apparently, together at my home only for the purpose of completing a transaction. (Do you believe that? Are you certain of that? Isn’t it possible that there is a larger purpose? Do you ever think about why certain people cross your path?)
What motivates transformation? Throwing caution to the wind? Risking it all?
Humanity is coming face to face with the consequences of our failure to care for the creation and for each other. Each of us knows what we need to know.
