“Jesus said: The words that I speak unto you, not the words I have spoken, they are spirit and they are life…Jesus re-speaks them to us in a particular condition.” – OC, My Utmost For His Highest, January 3.
For the first 25 years, after I began seeking God with all body, mind and spirit in 1981, Oswald Chambers was my daily devotional mentor. As I begin my devotional times in 2021, I am returning to his wisdom and once a week I will share a brief passage from that wisdom and a few comments. For this week I want to share with you that beginning just a few years ago, I decided that there was so much confusion, and distortion, in Christian circles and Christian dogma as to who Jesus is, that I HAD to return daily to the 4 New Testament Gospels to meet Jesus again, as if for the first time. I need to “re-construct” my knowledge of Jesus, depending first and foremost on what Jesus says to me each and every day. In the short passage above, Oswald Chambers confirms that decision and advises me, and you, to listen to what Jesus says to us now, now what anyone else once heard Jesus say. That’s the only way for the Word of God to be, for you and me, spirit and life. The letter kills. The spirit gives life. KCW
