While you have light, believe in the lightJohn 12:36
“See that you make your decisions in the light of the high hour… Take yourself by the scruff of the neck and shake off your incarnate laziness.”OC
That’s a rather candid command from Oswald, don’t you think? He is sharing a devotional word with students preparing for mission service, but also a word for you and me. He knows our secret, does he not? That secret is that though we though we have been called, inspired and love the Lord, we often do not feel like doing what needs to be done. The secret is that we are, by our very nature, lazy.
M. Scott Peck, author of The Road Less Traveled and People of the Lie, taught readers like me that humanity’s original sin is laziness. Laziness–not doing the hard work. What hard work? The hard work that always follows a long-sought mountain-top experience; work that must be done in the deep and dark valley. The hard work of building the Kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven, when we don’t feel like putting that much energy in it. The hard work of learning, reading, listening, and praying in order to be as certain as humanly possible that we know the truth that sets us free, and are thus not false prophets or purveyors of gossip.
So, get up and get going; now.
